The Zeeland West Girl’s track and field team competed in the 50th annual West Ottawa Von Ins Relays on Saturday and finished in third place with 74 points. Winning the meet was Forest Hills Eastern who took first with 92 points and in second was Holland Christian who finished the meet with 78 points. The Lady Dux had one first place finish on the day as Julia Babinec, Marissa Sterken, Brynne Pieters, and Madi Coleman won the Shuttle Hurdle Relay with a time of 1:12.34.
The Lady Dux had a good showing in the field events where they finished second in three of the four field events, and third in the other. In the discus Olivia Kraft (91’5″) and Brooklyn Muyskens (89’5″) teamed up to finish in second; Olivia (34’3.5″) also teamed up with Emilee Gaiser (31′.75″) to take second in the shot put. In the jumps, Shanna Han (16’9.5″) and Natalie Smeyers (14’7.5″) took second, while in the high jump Allie Williams (4’8″) and Lilly Jacobs )4’6″) teamed up to take third.
Other top three finishes on the track came in the 6,800 meter relay where Brinley Schenk, Morgan Overweg, Lydia Bekius, and Olivia Weenum (24:26.56) took second, and in the 4 x 100 (54.90) relay where Maddie Overweg, Shanna Han, Alyssa Ortiz, and Nicole Diekema took third.
The Lady Dux will compete on Friday in the OK Green Conference Meet held at Unity Christian. Field events will start at 3:00, followed by prelims at 5:00 and finals start at 7:00 PM.
