On Saturday, the Lady Dux Track and Field team finished third out of fifteen teams at the MHSAA regional meet held in Allendale. Zeeland East won the meet with a score of 112, followed by Hamilton with 84.16, and the Dux in third with 76.16 to round out the top three. The Lady Dux performed very well on the day setting personal or season best times in almost all of the day’s 17 events!
The Lady Dux had one regional champion on the day as senior Haley Hoogenraad won the 800 meter run with a state leading time of 2:15.15. The Lady Dux also had several top three performances in events including sophomore Julia Babinec beating her own school record in the 100 hurdles and finishing 2nd (16.04), sophomore Shanna Han finishing 2nd in the long jump (16’2.25″), sophomore Olivia Kraft taking 2nd in the discus (121’8″), sophomore Brinley Schenk finishing 3rd in the 3,200 (12:05.48), and a 2nd place finish in the 4 x 800 relay by Lydia Bekius, Haley Hoogenraad, Morgan Overweg, and Brinley Schenk (9:49.40)
Other top five performances on the day came from sophomore Shanna Han finishing 5th in the 100 meter dash (13.60), sophomore Brinley Schenk 4th in the 1,600 (5:25.35), junior Josie Smith 4th in the pole vault (9’5″), a 4th place finish in the 4 x 100 relay by Maddie Overweg, Shanna Han, Alyssa Ortiz, and Nicole Diekema (52.82), and a 5th place finish from the 4 x 400 relay team of Nicole Diekema, Haley Hoogenraad, Kynzie Ward, and Shanna Han (4:17.92).
The following ladies, based on Saturday’s finishes, have qualified for the MHSAA State Finals Track and Field meet held here in Zeeland on June 4. Please congratulate Haley Hoogenraad (800, 4 x 8), Julia Babinec (100 hurdles), Shanna Han (Long Jump), Josie Smith (Pole Vault), Olivia Kraft (Discus), Morgan Overweg (4 x 8), Lydia Bekius (4 x 8), and Brinley Schenk (4 x 8).
The Lady Dux will compete in the Squire Invite on Monday evening before traveling across the state next Saturday to compete in the Team State Final Meet held in Linden, MI.
