The Lady Dux Track and Field team defended their title from last season and made it back to back champs at Monday’s 14-team Squire Invite meet held at Grandville Middle School. The Lady Dux took the top spot with 133 points, followed by Byron Center in second with 110 and Kenowa Hills in third with 104.5 points.
The Lady Dux had two individual event champions in the meet. Sophomore Kynzie Ward took first in the 400 meter dash with a new personal best time of 1:03.73 and freshman Allie Williams won the high jump with a jump of 4’8″. In addition to those first place finishers, the Lady Dux also took first in all four of the meet’s relays. The 4 x 800 team of Olivia Weenum, Olivia Creevy, Diana Sias, and Paige Heckel ran a 10:47.92 to take the top spot. In the 4 x 200, the team of Delaynie Ward, Kynzie Ward, Alyssa Ortiz, and Shanna Han ran a season best time of 1:52.52 to win by a margin of over 10 seconds. In the 4 x 100 relay, Maddie Overweg, Shanna Han, Alyssa Ortiz, and Jennifer Andary ran a 53.60 to finish in first and in the last race of the day the 4 x 400 team of Delaynie Ward, Olivia Creevy, Maddie TenBroeke, and Kynzie Ward took first with a time of 4:27.42.
Other top three finishes for the Lady Dux were Julia Babinec finishing third in the discus (91’6″), Natalie Smeyers third in the long jump (14’4″), Marissa Sterken third in the 100 hurdles (18.81), and Olivia Weenum third in the 1,600 (5:49.62).
The Lady Dux will have off until Saturday when they will travel to Linden, MI to compete in the MITCA Team State meet against many of the top teams in division two!
