The Boys Track & Field team had an excellent team performance at the MITCA team state meet in Linden this past Saturday. 162 division 2 teams began the season.  When the dust settled the DUX matched their state ranking with a 3rd place finish behind highly ranked Hamilton and the eventual state champions from Corunna.  The finish marks the 9th straight season the team has finished in the top 5 at the state tournament.  The finish along with the ladies championship showcased the quality of the DUX athletes, coaches and program.

The team had a very consistent day as they had a balance of points in most of the events.  The stand out event on the day was the shot put with exceptional throws from Zach VanValkenburg (49’4″) and Jayk Slager (48’7.25″).  Darius Perisee lead the way in the sprints as he place 5th in the 100m (11.69) and 11th in the 200m (24.07).  Badr Semia cruised to a 6th place finish in the high hurdles (16.43) and Tyler Thompson lead the way in the 300 hurldes with an 8th place finish (42.81).  Bryce Arredondo represented the distance crew well with a 14th place finish in the 1600m (4:44)  and an 11th place finish in the 800m (2:08.7).  The sprint relays had 2 excellent 3rd place finishes in the 13 team meet. Nate Kuiper (53.52) and Dylan Mulder (52.87)  set two personal records as they made the 400 one of the most improved events on the day. The most improved event on the day was set by the pole vault crew.  The squad of Austin Veele (10’6″) Dylan Butz (10’6″) and John Garnsey (12’3″) had an excellent day  showing off their yearly preparation and excellent coaching of Coach Koyer.  Overall it was a long, satisfying day for the team.  Thank you to all of the athletes, parents and coaches for making these team state accomplishments possible.  GO DUX!!
