The Boys cross country team headed to the Unity Christian Sports Complex to kick off their conference season Wednesday evening. The summer miles and team commitment paid off as the DUX posted two conference wins over Hamilton (23 – 32) and Holland Christian (17 – 39). Hamilton’s Luke Koopman took the lead from the start and maintained his lead to the finish line. He was followed closely by Bryce Arredondo (18:27) for the duration of the race who was the first runner in for the DUX, 4 seconds behind Koopman. Matt Converse (18:29) gained ground throughout the race and eventually finished near the leaders. Eric TerHaar (19:25) ran a strong, consistent race to place 3rd for the DUX. Sealing the victories for the team were River Foco (19:51) and newcomer Austin Soeters (19:55). Foco and Soeters pursued a pack of runners for over 2 miles until they caught them with less than 500m to go in the race. This was a true testament of their determination and proof of their commitment this past summer. Ethan Wolters (20:59) and Ethan Schreur (21:25) rounded out the top seven for the team.
Many members of the team put in many days of training with the team this Summer. Their consistent training and commitment resulted in course personal bests by the following runners: Bryce Arredondo (51sec course PR), Matt Converse (1:17 course PR), Eric TerHaar (:35 sec course PR), River Foco (2:50 course PR), Ethan Wolters (1:14 course PR), Dylan Muntter (2:07 course PR), Austin Novakowski (2:08 course PR), and Clark Vreeman (2:25 course PR).

The team will be in action this Saturday at the West Ottawa Bredeweg Invitational.
