This past Friday the boys cross county team headed to Michigan State University for the heavily attended Spartan Invitational. The invitational is a great opportunity for teams to see where they stand compared to other teams statewide. The DUX had a solid team showing at the event finishing 6th out of 42 teams in the bronze division. Bryce Arredondo and Matt Converse again lead the way for the team as they placed themselves in the lead group from the beginning of the race. They held strong with Converse (16:46) medaling in 11th position and Arredondo (16:53) medaling in 12th. Both times were career personal bests and course personal bests for each runner. Eric TerHaar (18:00) finished 3rd for the team in a new course personal best time. Austin Soeters (18:32) and River Foco (18:32) finished side by side to complete a strong top 5 presence at the meet. For Foco the finish was extremely memorable at its was a career personal best, course personal best and now a Foco personal best as he was able to break his brother River’s career best time. Ethan Wolters (19:56) and Jordan Brower (19:47) wrapped up the varsity finish with season personal best times. Overall, the varsity had a positive day as they continue to work toward their season goals.
The JV race was quite the event as 50 teams and 806 runners packed the course. Ben Lewis (19:53) was the first to the finish for the team with a season best time. He was followed closely by Ethan Schreur (19:59) and Ethan Senti (19:56) who also recorded season best times. Dylan Muntter (20:16), Austin Novakowski (21:24), Zach Baum (22:17), and Clark Vreeman (23:36) also raced to their best times of the season as the zigged and zagged through the competition. GO DUX!!
The team will be in action this Wednesday at Ridgepoint Church as they compete head to head against the remaining undefeated teams, Holland and Unity Christian, in the conference.
