Tis the Season – For Good Sportsmanship!!!
Actually – good sportsmanship should always be “in season” but now that we’re into December – I thought it was catchy!
Just recently we had our annual Quack Pack orientation meeting. The purpose of this gathering is to clearly lay out our (ZPS) expectations for fan behavior during our indoor season of competition. This meeting took on some additional meaning as it gave four senior leaders an opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas that stemmed from a Sportsmanship Summit that was put on by the MHSAA a couple of weeks ago. Aubrey Wilson, Brynne Pieters, Chad Mesbergen and Dylan Mulder are the ZW seniors that shared.
Here are some of the outcomes that were agreed to (by our students) that we can hold our Quack Pack (QP) accountable to:
All cheers & chants will follow three simple rules: They will be – Loud, Proud & Positive – Our focus should & will be on supporting & rooting for our team!
All signs & banners will be positive & supportive.
The QP will stand, face the flag and show reverence to our flag during the National Anthem.
The QP will stand, clap, and sing (if anyone doesn’t know it – we will have the words at our ticket tables) our fight song when it is played.
The QP will have theme nights where they will dress up in appropriate (& approved) costumes to add to the fun…
It would be great if all fans in attendance would follow the lead of the QP (except for the “dress up” theme nights – however – suit yourself) and exhibit these positive traits at all athletic contests!
Yours in sport,
