There was a three way tie in Jenison’s Hockey conference before tonight’s game. Grand Haven Buccaneers and Jenison Wildcats are two of the three teams involved. The Wildcats traveled to play the Buccaneers tonight on Grand Haven’s home ice tonight. First period did not go in the Wildcats’ favor at all with the Boys in Green and White going to the locker room down 2-0. Brett Battan was in net, with most of the Grand Haven student section standing behind him the whole night, but those were the only two goals he allowed. He made some truly great saves to keep his team in it!

The team responded midway through the second period when Skyler Vining created a turnover and passed the rubber biscuit to Hunter Jamieson who scored on a sweet breakaway. At the end of the second period, the Cats were still trailing 2-1.

Third period was back and forth with both teams getting chances to score. Then with just over 5 minutes to go in the game Clayton Boerigter grabbed another turnover from Grand Haven and passed to Chad Lemke who dropped it in the back of the net to tie the game up. Just 2 ½ minutes later, Ryan Schab found himself with the puck from a mis-timed Grand Haven pass and he took full advantage, scoring to put the Wildcats ahead. Playing tooth and fang to the last second, the Wildcats held on to the lead to win!

Next game will be Saturday night 7:00 away at Griff’s Ice house (Belknap Park) against West Catholic.
