Zeeland West Jumps Out To Early Lead In Victory Over Calvin Christian

An early lead helped the Zeeland West Varsity baseball team defeat Calvin Christian 9-2 on Friday. Zeeland West scored on a home run by Max Hecht and a groundout by Stephan Vriezema in the first inning. The Dux secured the victory thanks to the five runs in the first inning.

Caleb Kender earned the win for Zeeland West. He pitched seven innings, allowing two runs, four hits, and striking out eight. Steenstra took the loss for Calvin Christian. He threw five innings, giving up eight runs, ten hits, and striking out six.

Zeeland West had 11 hits in the game. Hecht, Trevor Kilinski, Brendan Vriezema, and Clayton Kuipers each collected multiple hits for the Dux. Kilinski and Hecht had three hits to lead Zeeland West.

The win was the ninth this season for the Dux and the 100th career win for head coach Adam Locker. 44 of those wins have come as the head coach for the Zeeland West Dux. “To me it means that I have been able to coach a lot of great players,” said Coach Locker after the milestone win, “I haven’t made one play or recorded one hit in any of those wins, I am just thankful for the opportunity to lead this program.”
