The first meeting between the Dux and Holland saw Zeeland West dig themselves into a 16 point halftime deficit that they were never able to crawl out of. The Dux would drop that game at Holland by a final score of 37-21. Tuesday nights’ matchup at Zeeland West was almost identical to the first. This time, however, the two teams would switch roles. Zeeland West came out on fire in the first quarter, scoring a season high 18 points, leading 18-6 at the end of 1. In that first quarter, West got 8 points a piece from Raegina Pung and Andrea Valdes. Sydney Lewis would add 2 points to round out the scoring in the first quarter. West would continue their high pace offensively in the 2nd quarter, outscoring Holland 9-3, taking a 27-10 lead into the halftime break. Raegina Pung continued her hot streak by scoring another 8 points in the 2nd quarter on 5-7 free throw shooting and one made three pointer. Holland, however, was not planning to give up. The Dutch came out fighting in the second half! Holland outscored West 12-5 in the 3rd quarter to cut their deficit down to 10 entering the 4th quarter. Emily Pierce scored her first basket as a JV player on a clutch three pointer late in the 3rd quarter when West really needed a basket badly. Though Holland would again outscore West in the 4th quarter 9-6, West was able to hold on down the stretch for the win. Ellie Highley made a clutch free throw line jumper late in the game and Andrea Valdes would add 4 more points to help secure the win for West!
Raegina Pung and Andrea Valdes led the team in scoring with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Raegina was 8-14 from the free throw line and Andrea was 2-4
Ellie Highley 4 points. Sydney Lewis 3 points, Emily Pierce 3 points.
