The Zeeland West Boys Track and Field team had a solid team performance at the Rockford Invitational this past Saturday. The team finished a strong 3rd (130.5) behind two of the best Division 1 teams in the state, Oak Park(152) and Rockford (153). Leading the way for the DUX were 3 exceptional 1st place individual performances. Jayk Slager set a new school record (163′ 8.5″) in the discus while throwing the 2nd best throw in the state so far this season. Jon Garnsey continued to excel in the pole vault as he set a new personal best mark of 14’0″ which tied him with the best vault performance in the state. Badr Semia cruised to a 15.51 in the 110m hurdles as he also ran the 2nd best performance in the state so far this season. Connor Burrows had an excellent day in the shot finishing in 3rd place with a career best put of 46’10.25″ and Daniel Quintanilla had a very consistent performance in the long jump as he finished 2nd with a jump of 19’8″. The team will be in action this Tuesday at Hudsonville Unity Christian as the begin the OK Green conference season, and they will wrap up their week on Thursday at Zeeland Stadium against the Bulldogs of Byron Center.
