The Zeeland West girls track and field team won the Frank Grimm Relays on Saturday making them back to back to back to back champs. The Lady Dux won 7 of the meet’s 14 events. The Dux were particularly strong in the field events where they won four out of the five field events.
Event winners in the field events were Josie Smith (10’0″) and Emily Tummel (8’0″) in the pole vault, Olivia Kraft (128’1″) and Julia Babinec (98′) in the discus, Olivia Kraft (35’1″) and Ciera Raby (25’1″) in the shot put, and Shanna Han (15’9″) and Natalie Smeyers (15’1″) in the long jump. Allie Williams (4’6″) and Kaylee Bakker (4’4″) teamed up to take second in the high jump.
On the track, event winners were the 4 x 100 team of Alyssa Ortiz, Tara Achterhof, Emily Tummel, and Shana Han with a time of 54.03, and the 4 x 400 team of Julia Babinec, Emma Daniels, Kayla Theodore, and Avery Schenk with a time of 4:30.14, and the 5 x 400 team of Marissa Sterken, Ermithe Zwart, Anna Smith, Jennifer Andary, and Kaela Viening with a time of 6:19.0.
Second place finishes on the track came from the 4 X 1,600 team of Olivia Weenum, Avery Schenk, Paige Heckel, and Elyse Wolters with a time of 10:39.96, the 4 x 200 team of Julia Babinec, Tara Achterhof, Shanna Han, and Josie Smith with a time of 1:53.79, the 4 x 800 team of Morgan Overweg, Avery Schenk, Diana Sias, and Olivia Weenum with a time of 10:39.96, and last but not least the co-ed 4 x 100 shuttle hurdle relay team of Badr Semia, Dylan Muntter, Julia Babinec, and Marissa Sterken with a time of 1:02.7.
The Dux will be back in action on Tuesday when they will travel to Holland Christian.
