Zeeland West Grabs Lead In Fourth Inning For Victory Over Calvin Christian
Zeeland West Dux Varsity took the lead late and defeated Calvin Christian 16-12 on Friday. The game was tied at 12 with Zeeland West batting in the bottom of the fourth when Max Hecht hit a grand slam driving in four runs.
Max Hecht led Zeeland West Dux Varsity to victory by driving in seven runs. He went 3-for-3 at the plate. Hecht drove in runs on a walk in the second, a home run in the third, and a grand slam in the fourth. The home runs we Hecht’s 5th and 6th of the season breaking the single-season home run record for Zeeland West High School.
Zeeland West took an early lead in the first inning. With one out in the first inning Aaron Sleeman drove in two runs when he tripled. The Dux scored six runs in the second inning. Zeeland West’s big inning was driven by a error, a walk by Hecht, a single by Caleb Kender, a single by Tate DeJonge, and a double by Connor Heckel.
Trevor Kilinski earned the win for Zeeland West. He tossed two innings, surrendering four runs, four hits, and striking out three. Sleeman started the game for the Dux. He went three innings, surrendering eight runs, three hits, and striking out four.
Zeeland West had 14 hits in the game. Hecht, Heckel, Kender, Sleeman, DeJonge, and Brendan Vriezema each collected multiple hits for the Dux.
The Dux will look to continue their winning streak as they host the Family Fare Wooden Bat tournament on Saturday, May 6. This is the 11th consecutive year that Family Fare has been the title sponsor of this great event. The first pitch for both games is set for 10am with the winners playing for the championship at 12:30pm.
