Game Recap

The Dux girls varsity soccer team lost to Unity Christian, 1-4 Friday night. The Dux took the opening kickoff and generated a quality scoring chance in the opening 30 seconds, but it was the Crusaders who scored in the opening 90 seconds to set the tone early. The Dux found themselves in a 0-2 hole less than 10 minutes into the game, but settled in defensively and began gaining more possession. Phoebe LaCroix’s driving run through the midfield set up a nice through ball to Sam Hecht on the left side of the penalty box. After beating her defender to the endline, Hecht drove towards goal and fired a point blank shot at the Crusader keeper. Ashtyn Dykstra was there to slam home the rebound to make it 1-2 with 25:11 to play in the first half. The Crusaders would score again late in the first half to take a 3-1 lead heading into halftime. They added an insurance goal in second half to secure the win. Ryleigh Farrell made 7 saves in goal for the Dux.

“We did a nice job generating scoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes, but were unable to find the finishing touch. The first two goals they scored were because we were a step late defensively, and didn’t do a very good job of pressing the ball in the midfield. That is a bad combination against a quality opponent like Unity. They were more aggressive throughout the game – winning 50/50 balls, which allowed them to play their style of game. We know they are a rhythm team, and we did a better job in the second half of disrupting their rhythm. We chased the game too much tonight, rather than playing to our strengths, and that cost us a bit.”

The Dux fall to 8-4-2 on the year, and 6-2-1 in the OK Green. They host Holland Christian on Wednesday.
