The freshman and sophomore Squire Invite came down to the last event on Monday night and the Lady Dux had just enough to get the job done! The Lady Dux won the meet with 146.5 points to Byron Center’s 146 points which came down to close finishes in the evening’s last event of the 4 x 4 relay. Grand Rapids Christian- 3 (58.5), Zeeland East – 4 (56), and Hopkins- 5 (46) rounded out the top 5 of the 13 team invitational.
The Dux won four events with sophomore Allie Williams setting a new PR with a height of 4’10” to win the high jump, freshman Kayla Theodore won the 300 hurdles with a new PR of 53.94, the 4 x 100 relay team of Jennifer Andary, Allie Williams, Emily Tummel, and Tara Achterhof took first with a time of 54.26, and the 4 x 200 relay team of Emma Daniels, Allie Williams, Kara Hecht, and Tara Achterhof finished first with a time of 1:55.86.
Other top three finishes for the Dux came from Emma Daniels finishing 3rd in the 400 (1:06.30), Rachel Smith 3rd in the 800 (2:46.98) and 3rd in the 3,200 (14:33.07), Ana DeKruiter 2nd in the 3,200 (13:55.24), Kayla Walker 3rd in the shot put (27’8″), Riley Kayser 2nd in the discus (77’4″), Emily Tummel 2nd in pole vault (8’0″), the 4 x 800 relay team of Ana DeKruiter, Rachel Smith, Anna Smith, and Emma Koopman finishing 2nd (11:48.49), and the 4 x 400 relay team of Kayla Theodore, Rose Dunlap, Raina Raval, and Bella Hoekwater finishing in 3rd (4:39.59) to finish out the meet.
The Lady Dux will be off until Saturday when they will look to defend their 2016 MITCA Team State Championship at the division 2 MITCA Team State Championship meet held at Battle Creek Harper Creek High School.
