The Boy’s Track & Field Team had one of their best performances in school history at the team state championships in Battle Creek this past Saturday. Most years the team’s performance would have earned them a state championship, but when the final scores were tallied the team finished in 3rd place (1096 points) trailing strong performances from the host school, Battle Creek-Harper Creek (1113), and their neighbors across the path, Zeeland East (1144). The day saw the DUX consistently compete in all 17 events. The team met their marks and exceeded their expectations in many events. It was truly a great team performance that was a true representation of all of the effort and dedication that this group put into their training over the past few months and years. The performance marks the 10th straight season the DUX have have finished as one of the top 5 teams in the state.
The following seniors wrapped up their DUX athletic careers on the day. Drake Fincannon hurdled his way to a season personal best in the 300 hurdles (42.25) finishing 6th out of 36. Eric TerHaar pushed himself to his limits as he wrapped up his final mile in 4:44 and 2 mile in 10:37. Alonzo DeLaRosa showed his true character as he held of the field in his leg of the 4×400 relay to put the team in 1st place as he handed off the baton to Dylan Mulder. Alonzo’s split in the relay was a career personal best 43.5. Connor Chupailo wrapped up his season of throws with a solid 44’2″ throw in the shot put. Thank you men for your character and commitment to our team.
