Tuesday, your 7th grade DUX soccer team took on the Holland Christian Maroons. In the first half, Holland Christian dominated play, keeping the ball on our side of the field and finding the back of the net multiple times. At the end of the first half, your DUX were down 4-0.
After making some adjustments, your DUX came out ready to play the second half and turned the tables on Holland Christian, scoring 5 goals to end the game with a 5-4 for your DUX. Joey DeWeerd found the back of the net first. A few minutes later, Joey was served a great pass and proceeded to the net for another shot in. After another few minutes, Austin Mansaray joined the scoring frenzy by using his speed to break away from his defender and whacking one into the net. Austin again out ran his defender who took him out in the box, setting up a score off a penalty kick, taken by Diego Mendoza.
The final score was recorded when one of the Holland Christian players had a hand ball, setting up a free kick which Diego knocked into the back of the net. Brandon Schader played solid between the pipes. Josh Overzet played an amazing second half, controlling the middle of the field for your DUX. Andrew Edwards , Austin Palomo, Isaiah Cifuentes, Carter Hughes, and Jacob Rios did a great job to hold Holland Christian scoreless in the second half. Great job team and congratulations on your first win of the season!!
The 8th grade boys soccer team stomped on the accelerator at the opening whistle Tuesday night and never looked back, defeating Holland Christian 7-0 at home. The Dux dominated every facet of the game and never really allowed the Maroons to get anything going offensively. Isaac Hondorp opened the scoring after a misclear by the Maroon defense at the top of the box. Hondorp assisted on the next two goals scored by Austin Bomers and Shua Kroll respectively, to take a 3-0 lead midway through the first half. The Dux would add two more goals before half, the first by a point blank tap in by Mitchell Middleton off of a perfectly placed cross by Xander Goodrich. Middleton returned the favor a short time later after crossing the ball to Goodrich on the far side, who slammed it into the back of the net.
The Dux would add two second half goals – one by Goodrich (his second of the night) and the other by Connor Dobrinski as time expired. Aden Kallemeyn and Nate VanDyken earned the clean sheet for the Dux, earning their first shutout of the season. The Dux return to action next week Monday against Byron Center.
