Multiple Teams · Boys Cross Country Win the Regional Title

The boys cross country team accomplished one of their season goals this past Saturday as they earned their first regional title in school history.  The team held their own as they scored 56 points just  8 points ahead of a determined Zeeland East squad.  The weather was cold, wet and windy but did not pose an obstacle to the DUX seven varsity runners.  Bryce Arredondo ran a determined race from start to finish as he finished 3rd in the race and earned all regional honors.  Matt Converse consistently made up ground throughout the course to eventually finish behind Arredondo in 4th place to also earn all regional honors.  Ethan Senti was the third member of the team to earn all regional honors as he held the 6th place position in the race throughout.  The next 4 runners for the team secured the victory as all seven runners finished in the top third of all racers in the event.  Austin Soeters finished 19th, Luke Munsey 24th, River Foco 25th and Mateo Arredondo 28th.  The win qualifies the team to compete at the MHSAA Division II state meet in Brooklyn next Saturday.

After the regional in Buchanan, the team headed to Allendale as the JV runners competed in the Post Regional Open Meet to wrap up their racing season.  The rain stopped and the sun came out for a brief moment as the JV team warmed up and raced.  This break in the weather and the squads determination allowed the team to accomplish their team goal of having 20 members run under 20 minutes this season.  Aden Degraaf (19:51), Isaac Carlson (19:55), and Zach Baum (19:18) each ran to personal best times as they broke the 20 minute barrier.  Ruben Pung lead the way as he medaled in 14th place with a career best time of 17:51.  Josh Ennen (18:28) earned his varsity letter as he broke the 18:30 barrier.  Jordan Brower (18:33), Scott Barrett (21:00) and Colin Dykstra (21:21) finished their season on a high not as they all set personal best times.  It has been a great season for the team.  Feel free to congratulate them and wish them well as you see them at school this week.
