The JV girls basketball team fell to a talented West Ottawa squad on Tuesday night by a score of 39-31. The Dux started slow on both sides of the ball and trailed 11-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Panthers would extend their lead out to 23-9 with just a few minutes to play in the half. However, back to back three pointers by Aaliyah Ybarra and Emily Pierce–part of an 8-0 Dux run to end the half–would allow West to pull the game within reach, trailing 23-17 at halftime. West Ottawa would outscore the Dux 8-6 in the third quarter, taking a 31-23 lead heading into the final quarter. These two teams would continue their back-and-forth battle throughout the fourth quarter, however the Panthers were able to close the game out from the free throw line, going 5-10. On the other side, the Dux were only able to make 1 of 7 free throw attempts in the final quarter.
9 of 11 Dux recorded a point in the contest, with Aaliyah Ybarra leading the way with 11 points. The Dux will be back in action on Friday, playing host to Muskegon Reeths Puffer. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm. Go Dux!
