Game Recap
It took less than 30 seconds for the Dux soccer team to take command of their opening game in the MHSAA District tournament against Ottawa Hills Tuesday afternoon, scoring on 4 of their first 5 shots en route to an 11-1 victory after only 40 minutes of play. "We've been waiting for an offensive explosion like this all season. We really moved the ball well, especially in the opening minutes, and were very aggressive offensively which set the tone early. Of course, scoring on 11 of our 14 looks at goal does great things for our confidence heading into Thursday's match against Holland. The girls were hungry, and really forced the pace of the game, making things difficult for Ottawa Hills to gather any momentum. With the exception of the one defensive lapse in judgment, we played a solid half of soccer." Kayla Burrows opened the scoring after finishing a beautifully slotted ball from Hannah Elzinga into the back of the net. Five minutes later, Elzinga had tallied 3 of her own goals to give the Dux an early 4-0 lead, two of them unassisted. Phoebe LaCroix found a streaking Elzinga and assisted on Elzinga's 3rd goal.
A brief miscommunication and lapse in judgment resulted in a loose ball at the top of the 18 in front of Dux goal keeper Hannah Brouwer. The uncontested shot from inside the 12 beat Brouwer to give Ottawa Hills some life. However, two Dux goals in the next 5 minutes switched the momentum back to in favor of the Dux. Halie Farell's cross found Phoebe LaCroix all alone in front of the net to give the Dux a 5-1 lead. Less than one minute later, LaCroix found Elzinga again for Elzinga's 4th and final goal of the match, making it 6-1.
Less than 10 minutes later, central defender Yulissa Rodriguez made a run out of the back, slotting the ball to Halie Farell, whose one time shot beat Ottawa Hills keeper to make it 7-1. Two other defenders stepped up on overlapping runs, each resulting in their first goals of the season. After making an overlapping run, outside back Hattie LaCroix gathered a loose ball on top of the OH 18, turned to the outside and beat her defender to the near post, cleverly slotting a ball past the keeper and beating her on the far post. Less than 2 minutes later, Sophia Ralya (center back), followed Hattie's formula and scored on an almost identical play. Phoebe LaCroix scored the final two goals for the Dux in the waning moments of the first half. Lydia Bouvier's initial shot clanged off of the post and found LaCroix's foot for her second goal of the match, making it 10-1. Her final goal came off of a cross after Kelsey Schenk beat her defender on the outside, and drove a ball up and over the keeper's hands and onto the foot of LaCroix. The Dux outshot Ottawa Hills 19-3, and improve to 6-5-6 on the season. They take on District host's Holland on Thursday in the first of two semi-final matches. The Dux tied 1-1 and lost 0-1 in earlier matches against the Dutch.

Game Recap
Zeeland West Beats Fennville in game one of the Holland Sentinel Classic behind the pitching of Ben Parker and the power hitting of Jake Tipton. The school year is finished for the seniors of Zeeland West, but for two DUX baseball seniors, they are still laser focused on the baseball season that is still in full swing.

Senior Ben Parker picked up win on the mound after coming in as a relief pitcher in the 3rd inning. Parker struck out 5 Blackhawks and gave up just one run. "We were trailing by a run and with a tight zone behind the dish Ben came through and made some tough pitches to give our team a chance", said DUX coach Jeff VanHuis.

Senior Jake Tipton had a big day going 2 for 4 with a Double and a Home Run. With the DUX up by just two runs in the 7th inning, Tipton put a two strike fastball over the left field fence for a two-run homer. "Jake has been fantastic for us this season and he really was clutch for us tonight.". This is Tipton's 2nd home run of the year. Ben Smart also had two hits and two runs scored. Kyle Birr was 1 for 2 with an RBI and run scored. "I am proud of our guys, Fennville is a very solid team and we knew that we had to play well tonight. Game Recap
In the final game of the regular season, the Dux played the best 15 minutes of soccer they have played all season and jumped out to an early 1-0 lead against Coopersville Thursday night. Yulissa Rodriguez's well placed free kick less than 5 minutes into the match set the tone early for the Dux. "Initially, we had great movement both on and off of the ball, and had several quality chances in the opening minutes of the game. We played with passion, enthusiasm, and poise. All the things we've been working on this season, we saw in the first 15 minutes with solid results." However, the Dux could not maintain their momentum, and Coopersville got the equalizer on a corner kick in the second half. The game ended in a 1-1 draw. "I really can't explain what happened, but in the second half, we really didn't come out playing with the same energy, emotion or passion." The Dux end the regular season with a record of 5-5-6, (4-5-1 in the OK Green) which earned them 4th place in the OK Green. The Dux look to rebound on Tuesday as they travel to Ottawa Hills on Tuesday to begin district play.

Game Recap
The Dux offense got back on track Tuesday night as they defeated host Byron Center 3-0 in their final conference game of the season. The Dux outshot the Bulldogs 15 – 6, and controlled the pace and tempo for large portions of the match. Freshman Phoebe LaCroix and senior Hannah Elzinga provided that offense for the Dux, with LaCroix assisting on Elzinga's pair of goals, and Elzinga assisting on LaCroix's goal. The Dux took a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the match, when a clever one touch through ball from LaCroix found the foot of Elzinga at the top of the Bulldog penalty area, which Elzinga fired low and to the left of BC keeper Lea Bussler. Less than three minutes later, LaCroix again combined with Elzinga as Hannah's shot slipped under the arms of Bussler. Despite having several break away chances and near misses, the Dux took the 2-0 lead into half time.
It took less than 90 seconds into the 2nd half for Elzinga to return the favor by threading a perfectly timed ball to a streaking LaCroix through the middle. LaCroix slipped the ball into the back of the net under the arms of a charging Bussler. The Dux continued to possess, and moved the ball around better in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the match. A crossbar and great rebound save by Lexi DeYoung preserved the shutout for the Dux. DeYoung made 3 saves, while Hannah Brouwer made 2. The Dux defensive unit of Kallie Fincannon, Hattie LaCroix, Yulissa Rodriguez and Sophia Ralya, played very agressively and limited the opportunities of the Bulldogs. The win evens the Dux record at 5-5-5 on the year (4-5-1 in the OK Green). The Dux finish the regular season Thursday night, when they host Coopersville for a 5:00pm match, before entering the District Tournament next week.
"We talked before the game about building momentum heading into the final week of our season. We got a little sloppy in the first half, and didn't move the ball as well as we could have. However, towards the middle of the 2nd half, we started playing our style of play, and did a better job of moving the ball and playing to feet. We are definitely heading in the right direction, and it was nice to see us find the back of the net. We have a resilient team that continues to improve, and we are looking forward to next week."
