Game Recap

The varsity water polo team fell to Grand Haven on Wednesday night, 4-10. In a tough game for the Dux and Chix, the ball struggled to find the back of the net. Jonathan Kollen scored the majority of the team’s goals with three and he also had two steals. Austin Mills added the lone other goal and had two assists to Jonathan. Despite the struggles on offense, the team, particularly the seniors, played well defensively. Philip DeJonge had four steals while Jon Michael Hoeve had three steals and a field block. Brendan Pinner continued his streak of ten or more saves with twelve blocks in front of the net.

As this was the last home game of the season, the team celebrated its seniors and all of their accomplishments. Congratulations to Logan Cook, Philip DeJonge, Jon Michael Hoeve, Austin Mills, and Brendan Pinner for their great water polo careers. Everyone is planning on attending college next year. Logan and Jon are currently undecided, Austin and Brendan will be attending Michigan State University, and Logan is going to Oakland University.

The team will play in a high-level Rockford tournament this weekend to wrap up the regular season. That should hopefully prepare the team for the postseason which begins next weekend with the district tournament in East Grand Rapids.

Game Recap

On a windy night one mistake was the difference. The Dux controlled possession very well in the 1st half with the wind at their backs. Many opportunities were a pass or 2 away and theu just could not convert. Byron used quick counters to out the Dux on their heels and press forward. It was very back and forth for most of the 1st half. A defensive lapse was all ot took as quick combination play from the Bulldogs amd a very nicely placed shot was the difference. The Bulldogs went up 1-0 with just under 10 minutes to go in the 1st half. The Dux had 2 free kicks from right outside the box but couldnt get them on frame. The 2nd half was just as scrappy with both teams working hard. Byron center had more opportunities but Branch McGeehan was big in net once again. The Dux had one very good chance that was put just over the bar off a deflected save. Both teams played extremely hard but the Dux couldnt get the equalizer. McGeehan made 10 saves for the Dux.

Game Recap

The Dux came out very flat tonight and Holland took littl time in taking advantage of it. The Dutch got on the board early and often and the Dux had no answer. The Dutch scored on 5 consecutive shots as the Dux defense couldn’t stop the Dutch. Offensively the Dux battled to gain possession and put any type of pressure on the Dutch defense. The half ended with tb Dutch up 6-0. You can’t let a team like Holland put up 6 in the 1st 40 and expect a good outcome. The 2nd half was much better from the Dux as they stepped up their defense and offense. They had a few really good scoring opportunities including a break away by Josiah Peterson that was saved by the Dutch keeper. Kadre Dryden had a couple of rips that were saved as well but the Dutch kept pressing and found the net the 2 times they needed to make it an early night. We just really struggled in that 1st half and Holland is too good to have an off night against. Hopefully we rebound Wednesday.
