Zeeland JV Polo fell to the Grand Haven Buccaneers Wednesday 4-8. After struggling to control possession of the ball in the first quarter, Zeeland’s defense kicked in and held the Buccs to their 4 point lead. Sophomore Spencer DeGraaf scored all 4 of Zeeland’s goals with assists from Justin Meyer, Brandon Johnson and Kyle VanTuinen. Defensively the team had a collective 14 steals, 5 of which were delivered by DeGraaf. Goalie Evan Potter blocked 6 shots on goal. The JV boys have their final tournament this weekend in double elimination bracket play hosted at Grand Haven.
The Boy’s JV soccer team lost a hard fought match against Holland High on Monday evening. The Dux played well defensively and kept the Dutch scoreless until the last two minutes of the first half when Holland was awarded a penalty for a foul in the box. The penalty was successfully taken and the Dutch went into the half with a 1-0 lead. Holland was able to score two more goals in the 2nd half and the game ended 3-0 in favor of the Dutch. The last regular season game for the Dux will be at home on Wednesday, October 11 against Byron Center.
Zeeland JV Water Polo defeated the East Kentwood Falcons Monday night 15-6. Goals were scored by a majority of the players, notably Justin Meyer and Jacob Pollack. Kyle VanTuinen created good offensive opportunities by drawing two exclusions against the other team. Spencer DeGraaf and Aidan VanSoest held down the defense with 4 steals each. Goalie Evan Potter had an outstanding 5 assists from goal and finished the game with 6 saves. The boys look forward to Senior Night on Wednesday against the Grand Haven Buccaneers.
