Dux News · MHSAA Scholar Athlete Award Nominations are now open

The Michigan High School Athletic Association sponsors a Scholar/Athlete Scholarship annually.  This scholarship is for seniors who have a 3.5 GPA and have lettered in at least one MHSAA sponsored Varsity sport prior to their senior year.  If you are interested in applying be sure to see Mr. Werley in the athletic office for details.  Here is some information from the MHSAA that gives some additional information on the award…

  1. There may be no more prestigious honor for a scholar-athlete than this award. Even if you have a student that already has secured a full-ride scholarship, please encourage him or her to apply for this award. The 32 winners are a true representation of the term “scholar-athlete”, and winning this award should be a goal for every student.

  1. Encourage ALL students who meet the minimum requirement to apply for the award. Don’t just limit yourself by inviting only those with the highest GPAs. Use our 40-30-20-10 scoring formula (described athttp://www.mhsaa.com/Schools/Students/ScholarAthleteAward.aspx) to determine the best of your applicants. If you get more applicants then you’re allowed, I would be happy to send you additional certificates for ALL students who completed an application and essay.

  1. The essay and short answer questions are very important. Your student may be a four-time MHSAA champion with a 4.0 GPA, but if the student does not write a good and interesting essay he or she will not win. In addition, have your students work with an English teacher to proof the essay; it never hurts to have more eyeballs look at the app before submission.

Dux News · Werley’s Words: Final Forms is Up and Running!!!

Great News – Final Forms is up and Running!  Take a look at the parent instructional letter that should explain how to sign up your child:

FF_ParentPlaybook-Zeeland

Please Note:  For the services that FinalForms provides there will be an annual fee of $7.00 per student…

Thank you for your assistance and support in streamlining our paperwork processes for Zeeland West & Creekside Athletics.

If you have any questions or are having any trouble registering, please plan on attending one of the FinalForms instructional meetings on one of the following dates:  Tuesday July 11, Tuesday July 18, or Thursday July 27.  All meetings will begin at 7:00 pm in the Zeeland West Cafeteria.  Please bring an electronic device (Ipad, lap top or smart phone) for the meeting.

If you have successfully registered your child (children) in FinalForms and you do not have any questions – feel free to skip the meetings…

Incoming freshmen will have an issue with email addresses.  They receive a new email address, without the numeral “2” after the “stu.”  Please enter the new email address, even thought it is not yet active.  If they are not activated before the new sports season begins, then we will figure out how to deal with it and they will need to sign the forms as soon as the new email is activated.

Middle school students still need the stu2 in their email addresses.

AD Werley

Dux News · Werleys Words: Zeeland West & Creekside Athletics Partner with FinalForms

We are very excited to announce that Zeeland West HS & Creekside MS have partnered with FinalForms, an online forms, and data management service. FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic participation forms for your students online (that’s right – students will no longer have to come in to get a Z.A.C.!). The most exciting news is that FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning that you will never need to enter the same information twice! FinalForms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time.

You will review your information once per school year to verify information is current and sign the forms.

The site is currently being developed and is expected to be ready to accept registrations very soon.  Once the site is live and online, parents will receive a notification along with a Parent Playbook with all of the instructions to get started.

Thank you for your assistance and support in streamlining our paperwork processes for Zeeland West & Creekside Athletics.

Please plan on attending a FinalForms instructional meeting for all parents of athletes (who plan on participating in school sports) on one of the following dates:  Tuesday July 11, Tuesday July 18, or Thursday July 27.  All meetings will begin at 7:00 pm in the Zeeland West Cafeteria (due to construction at ZE).
